October 5, 1999 New members on the Université de Montréal's Board of Directors |
The Chancellor of the Université de Montréal's Board of Directors, Mr. André Bisson, is pleased to announce the appointment of the four new members, namely Pierre Karl Péladeau, President-CEO of Quebecor, Louise Roy, president and executive officer of Télémédia Communications, Marc Gold, Vice-President of Maxwell Cummings & Sons Holdings and Robert Martin, President of the General Student Association for the Continuing Education (Association générale des étudiants et des étudiantes de la Faculté de l'éducation permanente (AGEEFEP)). MM. Péladeau and Gold, along with Ms. Roy, are among the eight members of the Board appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council upon the Education Minister's recommendation. Mr. Martin was appointed by the AGEEFEP. With its two affiliated schools, École Polytechnique and École des HEC,
Université de Montréal is one of the largest Canadian research universities.
It offers programs at the bachelor, master, and Ph.D. level in almost
every disciplines. It has 1,700 professors on staff and more than 44,500
registered students, of whom 10,265 are registered in graduate and post
graduate programs. Université de Montréal ranks second among Canadian
universities with regards to the number of students registered in graduate
and post graduate programs. The Université also ranks 2nd or 3rd among
Canadian research universities in terms of grants and research contracts.
