The Marie-Curie
Scholarship was awarded to Valérie Hudon of Rivière-du-Loup,
a Natural Sciences graduate of Collège de Rivière-du-Loup,
by the Physics Department at Université de Montréal.
The scholarship will finance a paid internship as part of a research
group in the Physics Department at Université de Montréal.
The Marie-Curie Scholarship was presented by the Vice-Rector for
Research, Alain Caillé and the Dean of the Faculty of Arts
and Sciences, Mireille Mathieu.
Valérie Hudon is an outstanding student who has already received
a number of honours in recognition of her contribution and involvement.
These include the Governor Generals Medal for best cumulative
average in secondary school; The Lieutenant Governors Prize
for the best average in international education, the prize in mathematics
and the prize in humanities for the best averages in these subjectsall
in 1998. She is also active in a number of associations in her school
and region.
The Marie-Curie Scholarship, created by the Physics Department of
Université de Montréal, two years ago, is intended
to help young women wishing to make a career as physicists. At this
time only 12 to 15% of female students go on to study physics. The
Scholarship is awarded on the basis of merit.
